Our Work
In the past two decades, political power has become sharply polarized, favoring extreme ends of the spectrum. Restoring the balance of power hinges on altering elected officials’ behavior, which necessitates adjusting incentives.
We partner with organizations driving open primaries plus ranked voting and other nonpartisan initiatives. These electoral reforms represent a solution that enables eligible voters to participate in any taxpayer-funded election, including primaries, and requires candidates to secure a majority of votes to win. The reforms incentivize politicians to represent all constituents, rather than the small minority who vote in closed party primaries conducted on the taxpayer’s dime. Open primaries and ranked choice voting are already transforming governments internationally, as well as in Alaska, Washington DC and elsewhere.
Majority Rules
Majority Rules is a documentary film that explores a bold new approach to fixing the polarization and dysfunction of the American electoral system. Directed by veteran political filmmaker AJ Schnack (Caucus, Convention), the film dives into Alaska’s adoption of open primaries and ranked-choice voting—reforms designed to empower voters and foster a more functional, representative democracy.
Executive produced by our co-founders, David Baszucki and Jan Ellison Baszucki, the film raises urgent questions about the future of U.S. elections. Through interviews with both supporters and opponents of reform, Majority Rules takes viewers across the country to see where these innovations are already in place and where they might soon be adopted. The film challenges us to consider whether changing the way we vote could address today’s deep partisan divides to help government serve a majority of Americans.
